The arrest of SM blogger Webkid Afrika has escalated into one of Ghana’s most talked-about celebrity feuds of 2026, with new court details confirming dancehall star Stonebwoy as the complainant behind the case.
What Happened
Webkid, a vocal supporter of Shatta Wale and a prominent figure in the Shatta Movement online community, was picked up by the Ghana Police Service on May 7, 2026. He was charged with publication of false news, offensive conduct, and actions conducive to a breach of peace after a series of posts targeting Stonebwoy’s wife and family circulated on X.
Court documents reviewed on May 11 reveal that the charge sheet lists Livingstone Etse Satekla Stonebwoy’s legal name—as the complainant. The confirmation came from Webkid’s lawyer during an interview on Asempa FM, putting to rest weeks of speculation.
Prosecutors allege Webkid was contracted by Stonebwoy’s former social media manager to post derogatory and misleading captions about the artist’s family. Investigations are ongoing to identify other alleged accomplices.
Stonebwoy’s Camp Pushes Back
The confirmation puts Stonebwoy’s PR team in an awkward position. Publicist Vida Adutwumwaa had stated during the 2026 TGMAs on May 9 that the arrest was carried out independently by authorities, insisting, “It is not in Stonebwoy’s power to cause the arrest of anybody.”
She added that Webkid’s broader social media conduct, including posts allegedly disrespecting the Asantehene, may have triggered wider police action.
Shatta Wale Enters the Fray
Shatta Wale responded swiftly on May 8 with a warning to the Ghana Police Service. In a post on X, he said members of the Shatta Movement would take to the streets if Webkid isn’t released, calling it a matter of “discipline and power.”
“Only broke artists go about arresting people who criticise them,” Shatta Wale said in a follow-up video, framing the arrest as an attack on free speech within the dancehall space.
The threat has mobilized fans online, with #FreeWebkid trending intermittently and supporters demanding transparency in the legal process.
Where Things Stand Now
Webkid remains in custody at Osu Police Station. He faces multiple criminal counts, and police say more arrests linked to the case are possible. No bail hearing or court ruling has been made public as of May 20, 2026.
The case has reignited debate in Ghana’s entertainment space over the limits of online criticism, celebrity accountability, and the use of legal action against social media commentators.
For now, the ball is in the court’s hands—and in the streets, if Shatta Wale’s warning holds.
