| GHANA FLOOD UPDATE: RESCUE TEAMS DEPLOYED ACROSS ACCRA AS HEAVY RAINS PERSIST |
Heavy rains have triggered widespread flooding across Accra, Tema, and Kasoa on Monday, June 29, 2026, leaving several communities submerged and major roads impassable. The Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet) says the rains are linked to a slow-moving storm system from Togo, with heavier downpours expected along coastal communities through the afternoon.
RESCUE TEAMS IN ACTION
Multiple emergency agencies have mobilized to support affected residents. The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), the Ghana Armed Forces, the Ghana Police Service, the Ghana National Fire Service, and the National Ambulance Service have all commenced rescue operations.
The Ghana Armed Forces activated Operation Boafo, its disaster-response operation, deploying engineers to flood-hotspot areas including Klagon, Tse Addo, Chorkor and Dzorwulu. Personnel have already rescued several residents who were stranded in their homes.
The Ghana National Fire Service has also responded to incidents in Ningo, Miotso, Ridge Hospital, Kasoa, Gomoa Nyanyano and Tema New Town, and is urging affected residents to share their locations so rescue teams can reach them quickly.
Sadly, the floods have not been without tragedy. Reports indicate a flood victim was found dead along the Alajo railway track as rescue operations continue, and one person was reportedly electrocuted as floodwaters overwhelmed parts of the city.
CAUTION ADVISED FOR RESIDENTS
The Ministry of the Interior has issued a public safety advisory urging extreme caution:
— Do not drive or walk through flooded roads, bridges, or waterways
— Move to higher ground if you're in a flood-prone area
— Stay indoors or at safe locations until conditions improve
— Move valuables and important documents to higher ground
— Report emergencies promptly to the nearest agency
