| Black Stars Crash Out of 2026 World Cup After Colombia Defeat in Kansas City |
Ghana's World Cup dream has come to an end. The Black Stars have been eliminated from the 2026 FIFA World Cup after a narrow defeat to Colombia in the Round of 32 clash played at Kansas City Stadium on Saturday, July 4.
The result brings a disappointing close to Ghana's campaign in North America, a tournament that saw the Black Stars top their group and get past Croatia before falling in the knockout stage.
Head coach Carlos Queiroz had made four changes to his starting lineup for the Colombia showdown, bringing back Ati-Zigi, Inaki Williams and Jerome Opoku ahead of the must-win tie. Despite the changes, Ghana couldn't find a way past a resilient Colombian side.
Reactions have already started pouring in from camp. Ghana's Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, praised the team's effort and encouraged the players to see the tournament as a step forward rather than a setback.
Defender Gideon Mensah thanked Ghanaian fans for their unwavering support throughout the tournament and promised the team would come back stronger. Midfielder Jerome Opoku echoed similar sentiments, saying the hunger was there, but things simply didn't go their way on the day.
The Black Stars' elimination brings an emotional end to a World Cup journey that carried the hopes of an entire nation. Ghanaians will now look ahead to see how the team rebuilds under Queiroz's leadership.
