| Cheddar's No.1 Oxford Street Hotel Seized by Police-Assisted Receiver Over $14.9m Debt |
The Commercial Division of the High Court in Accra, presided over by Justice Samuel Faraday Johnson, granted the order on July 21, 2026, authorizing UK-based Cola Holdings Limited and its appointed Receiver, Nii Amanor Dodoo, to take possession of the property. The court found that Cola Holdings had properly registered its security interest over the hotel and was entitled to enforce it under the Borrowers and Lenders Act, 2020.
Kensington Residential Partners 1 Limited (KRP1), the company managing the hotel and jointly owned by Cheddar and his business partner Azad Cola, opposed the application, but the court dismissed its objections. By Thursday, July 23, the Receiver had reportedly taken possession of the building.
The dispute traces back to a January 2025 ruling by the High Court of England and Wales, which ordered Bediako to pay Cola Holdings more than $14.9 million plus interest and costs over a failed business arrangement. Bediako has maintained that he disputes liability under that judgment and had instructed his lawyers to challenge its enforcement in Ghana.
In a press release issued Thursday, KRP1 confirmed it has filed an appeal against the High Court's order, along with an application for interim relief, seeking to halt the takeover while the appeal is heard.
